I'm reading Milan Kundera's 'The Joke' at the moment.
So far I'm enjoying the masterful disconnectedness of it. I have the impression that I am in the hands of a master storyteller and wonder how this novel is going to end up.
Kundera's insight and comment on communism is both comic and frightening. His characters are credible, revealing both inward strength and pitiable frailty.
I am enjoying this more than I had anticipated. I was motivated to read a Czech writer after a visit to the Czech Republic in December 2009.
If there's anyone also reading this, would you care to comment?
